Clyde Shavers is a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and U.S. Navy Veteran, a Yale Law School graduate and practicing attorney, and non-profit leader and volunteer.

Clyde grew up in Washington dedicated to a life of public service.

He answered the call of duty to serve and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. He was later stationed in the Middle East at U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/U.S. 5th Fleet and Southeast Asia at Destroyer Squadron 7.

Clyde never thought during the academy or the military that he would ever consider running for political office. A career serving in our navy was as honorable and meaningful as any other job that he could think of.

But while serving overseas, our country faced bitter polarization fueled by hatred and mistrust driven by rigid dogma, tempting radical theories, and one-sided media. He saw the growing angry confusion concerned with being politically right or left instead of being simply right or wrong.

In the face of political hostility and divisiveness, Clyde felt a profound responsibility to act and continue serving – this time in a different capacity.

He attended law school using the GI Bill to learn how to solve tough problems and improve people’s lives. Clyde graduated from Yale Law School having studied environmental law with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and established the Yale Coalition to End Homelessness.

He would later serve on the boards of Skagit Friendship House that supports Mount Vernon’s homeless and working poor, South Whidbey Goosefoot that works to build affordable housing, and the Whidbey Veteran Resources Center that serves veterans and military families.

Since 2023, he has served as the 10th Legislative District’s State Representative.

He is the lead sponsor of 7 and cosponsor of 32 legislative bills – clean energy technology, support for military children, career learning opportunities for students, funding for food banks, rural community assistance, unemployment insurance for workers, and financial education/work credit for students.

He brought in millions of dollars to community projects – the Camano Lutheran Childcare Center, bed expansion design at the Oak Harbor Ituha Stabilization Center, affordable housing for the disabled community at Arlington’s Village Community Services, flood mitigation & police station in Stanwood, workforce housing in Coupeville, and much more.

With over a decade of serving our nation and state, Clyde is the voice for the voiceless, a champion for justice, and a beacon of hope in times of uncertainty. He cares deeply for others, embraces the challenges before us with unwavering courage, and inspires others to join towards creating a brighter better tomorrow for all.
